Troubleshooting FAQ

My slide show appears to be running slow, or the audio track is skipping.

In most cases, two factors affect the speed of slides shows: grids, and media files size.

Grids: Unless you are using a fast computer, using the slide show with more than one video track will place considerable strain on your machine and degrade playback. Experiment with 2 to 4 video channels first before choosing more complex grids.

File Size: On slower computers, a slide show of 20 MB image files will run much slower than a slide show with 1 MB image files. What slows MediaPro down is not necessarily the file size, but the actual dimensions of the media. Usually with larger dimensions, MediaPro has to dynamically shrink the image to fit the screen. If the image is the same shape as the screen (4:3 proportion) this delay isn't too noticeable. But for portrait images (vertical), this delay can be a few seconds.

Super fast slide shows: A solution to the speed and audio skipping issues is to create a temporary copy of your images that are optimized for the fastest on screen display. You can do this by using the batch "Convert Image Files..." in the Make menu. Here are the parameters that help:

a) Size: Match your screen resolution (for example, 1024x768). That way MediaPro won't have to resize the image.
b) Setting: Match your color depth (Thousands or Millions). This will save processor intensity.
c) Resoultion: 72 dpi, same as your screen
d) File format: Select an uncompressed format, such as Bitmap (BMP) or PICT instead of JPEG. This way the image file won't have to be decompressed on the fly, during the slide show.

Create a new catalog with the converted images and your slide show will be amazingly fast.

How do I add a background sound with my slide show?

• Import an MP3 or any audio file and place it at the beginning of your catalog.
• Add some images.
• Select the 1st item (or no item).
• Run the slide show.
If you want to add more sounds you can synchronize images with sounds using the "Slide Show Setup" dialog.

The transition effects do not appear to work in slide shows exported as a QuickTime movie.

If you are using a video compression, make sure that your frame rate is higher than 1 fps. If there is no value in the QuickTime compression settings dialog, fps defaults to 1, and you will get no effect (as the effect lasts for one second).

During slide show iView MediaPro cursor changes to an up arrow, and my screen goes black.

MediaPro stops the slide show if CAPS-LOCK key is pressed. Release CAPS-LOCK and off you go.

During slide show some, images display odd lines at the bottom of the screen.

Upgrade OS X to 10.1+

The OS X Finder menu bar and dock overlaps the slide show.

This happens when OS 9 is running in the background. If possible, quit the Classic emulation in the System Preferences dialog.

Can I use more than one audio file when making a slide show?

Yes, place your catalog entries in the following arrangement:
• sound 1
• image 1
• image 2
• sound 2
• image 3
• image 4
You may also set timers for each image to wait until a particular sound finishes, before loading the next sound.
