Why might a converted image not include data (Convert, HTML, Email)

There is a bug in Quicktime that means in some circumstances it may not be possible to create images that contain EXIF information. This could result in previous versions of View MediaPro failing to convert an image if the conversion includes EXIF information. Features in MediaPro that can include EXIF data while converting images include Convert Images Files, HTML Gallery and Send Email.

In the current version of iView MediaPro (version 3.1.1 and later) where an image would previously not of been created, because of this problem, this will be detected and an image will be created without the EXIF data.

Apple is aware of this bug and hopefully will fix it in a future version of Quicktime.

How does the new Notepad feature work?

iView Notepad is available with version 3.1 and later of iView MediaPro and iView Catalog Reader.

iView Notepad is a way to send comments about media items between different people using the same catalog. An example would be a Wedding Photographer who sends out an iView Catalog of wedding photos to the Bride and Groom. Using iView Catalog Reader the couple can select images and send those selections with comments back to the Photographer. The Photographer can then immediately see those selections in their original catalog and quickly process the photos according to the comments.

The iView Notepad is a flexible tool and can be used in different ways but the following describes how it would be used to send comments from a user with Catalog Reader and to a user with iView MediaPro. In the Wedding Photographer example the couple would receive the catalog from the Photographer. The couple would then complete the 'iView Catalog Reader' section below and the Photographer the 'iView MediaPro' section.

iView Catalog Reader

Launch iView Catalog Reader and open the catalog.

From the Windows menu choose 'Show Notepad'.

Drag a selection of images to the Notepad. This selection makes up the first page of the Notepad and the comments below the selection refer to these images.
Example: The comments for a selection of images for a wedding might be 'Please print 2 copies of these. Size large.'

If more feedback is needed then select a different page of the Notepad and repeat the process.

When the Notepad is complete choose 'email ...' button at the foot of the Notepad. An email in the default email client is created with the Notepad file included as an attachment. The Notepad file will have the same filename as the Catalog but with a .ivn extension (iView Notepad). This email is then sent to the creator of the catalog.

iView MediaPro

Open the email and save the attachment (Notepad file) to the same folder as the original catalog. Open the catalog and from the Windows menu choose 'Show Notepad'. The same selections and comments are available that were made in Catalog Reader. There are now a few more options where before there was only the email button. Using the 'Create sets using Notepad pages' option the information is moved to the Organize panel so that it can be integrated with your normal workflow.

How do I add an application as a Helper? (Mac)

Right click a media item in the list, thumbnail or media view. Choose 'Open with ...' and then 'Helper Applications ...'.

Choose 'Add ...' and then locate the application you wish to add as a helper.

This application will then be available when you use 'Open With ...'.

Why can't I see my blank CD/DVD in the backup destinations? (Win)

MediaPro is able to backup to volumes that are visable on the desktop.

Windows operating systems before Windows XP cannot natively burn to a CD. At the time of writing Windows XP cannot natively burn a DVD.

If your operating system cannot burn the type of disk you want to backup to you could consider one of these alternatives using the third party software you will have for your disk burner.

1. Simply make a selection and drag the selection to the burning utility.

2. Add the burning utility as a helper application. Right click an item in the catalog. Choose 'Open with ...' and then 'Define Helper Applications ...' Choose add and then locate the application you wish to add as a helper. This application will then be available when you use 'Open With ...'.

If you are not seeing your CD burner in the destination drop down on Windows XP,  make sure the option is checked 'Enable CD Recording on this drive', this option can be found by, open My Computer > select the CD drive > Right Click the CD drive > Select Properties > Click the Recording Tab.

Why can't I see my blank CD/DVD in the backup destinations? (Mac)

MediaPro is able to backup to volumes that are visable on the desktop.

Macintosh OS X can natively burn to a CD/DVD using a supported drive. By default when you insert a blank disk in a supported drive you are given a choice of options, the correct action is 'Open in finder'. This option can be set as the default option in the CDs and DVDs system preference.

Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) changed the way blank disks are treated, which required an update in MediaPro. To see blank disks in MediaPro using Tiger you will need to use at least version 2.6.4 build 401B.

Macintosh OS 9 does not include native burning. If you cannot natively burn the type of disk you want to backup to you could consider one of these alternatives using the third party software you will have for your disk burner.

1. Simply drag a selection of items to the windows of your burning application.

2. To add the burning application as a helper Ctrl-click an item in the catalog and choose 'Open with' and then 'Setup menu'. Choose 'Add', locate the application you want to add and then choose 'Open'. Now, when you ctrl-click a single item or selection, you can choose 'Open with' and then your application.

Why can't I use Photoshop CS as a helper application? (Mac)

There can be a problem with any application that tries to use Photoshop CS (PS CS) as a helper application ('open with'). PS CS will be launched but the selected images(s) will not be opened. This is not a problem specific to MediaPro using PS CS as a helper.

The solution is to reinstall Photoshop. You may find other answers by searching Adobe's support pages.
