How can I use Spotlight™ with MediaPro for Mac?

The Macintosh version of iView MediaPro 2.6.4 introduced integration with Apple's search technology Spotlight found in Mac OS X 10.4+. Spotlight allows users to search for both files and the data embedded in those files directly from the menu bar and have the results shown as the files are located in real time.
In this example we'll demonstrate two methods of using Spotlight to search for data embedded directly in your MediaPro catalogs.
We'll start by creating an iView catalog and adding a number of images to this in the normal way by either dragging and dropping them into the catalog window or using the File/Import menu command.

Add the keyword "Atlanta" and assign several of these images to this keyword by dragging them directly to the keyword entry in the organize panel. When we next save this catalog Spotlight is quietly instructed to update it's records and associates the catalog with this annotation.
If you choose to sync any annotations created within your iView catalog directly back into the original files then these will also be picked up on any Spotlight search results. The Sync Annotations command is in the Actions menu. If you choose to do this then you should be aware that Spotlight only supports a limited number of the full set of IPTC fields available to your catalog items. The following IPTC fields, however, are fully searchable;

•City,
•Copyright,
•Country,
•Keywords,
•Product, and
•State.

If we now use the Spotlight search tool in the top right of the menu bar and search for "Atlanta" we'll see both our iView catalog displayed in the results field as well as any images that contain synced annotations.

We can also import items simply by running a Spotlight query directly from MediaPro. Simply select Import Items/Run Spotlight Query… from the File menu and enter a term to search in the resulting dialog box. All file types that meet either the application's list of supported files or the user's list of custom types will be imported.

Spotlight returns a list of files that match your query. Unlike a spotlight query in the Finder this does not search the contents of documents. From here you can choose to either import these into the front most catalog or into a newly created one.

How can I search by fields not in the Quicksort list?

You can search by any field by including it in the fields shown in List view.

Add the field by CTRL clicking the header bar in List view. The shown fields are ticked, you may need to remove another field to make room for the new one.

You can now order the catalog by that field by clicking on it in the header bar. To invert the order click on the small icon, to the left of the filename header, which is a small triangle made up of three horizontal lines.

To fully understand the iView MediaPro 2 interface please see ShortcutCard.pdf which is in the documents folder.

Where is the Folders panel?

The Folders panel is now integrated into the Organize panel. It is at the foot of the Organize panel and if it is hard to see you can drag it upwards so that it takes more space.
