Can I catalog unsupported file types?
You can catalog file types that are not supported by MediaPro by editing the custom.txt importer file.
custom.txt is found in the following locations -
Mac - (MediaPro application package contents) SharedSupport:Plug-ins:Importers
Windows - Program Files\iView MediaPro\Plug-ins\Importers
You need to add one line for each filetype you want to add. The format of the line is -
XXXX|N|Description
Where XXXX is the filetype you want to add. The most useful way to add a filetype to use the filename extension padded with a space at the end to make up four characters. So to add a support for the canvas filetype the four characters would be 'CNV '.
N is the media type as seen in MediaPro and is a number from 0 to 6. The numbers and there meanings are 0-Image, 1-Audio, 2-Animation, 3-Vector, 4-DTP, 5-Font and 6-Text. Canvas is an image type so for this example we use '0' (zero).
Description is what will appear in the 'Media Importers' dialog for this add media type and is a simple text description of the type. So simply 'Canvas' will do for this example.
So the whole line will be -
CNV |0|Canvas
When you save the custom.txt file please be careful not to change it's filetype, filename or format. You can also use the four character filetype instead of the filename extension, this is described in Appendix B of the current manual but this is generally not as useful.
This layered Photoshop file was not saved with a composite image.
If an imported Photoshop image displays this message in MediaPro -
Please make sure Maximize Compatibility is chosen when saving the image in Photoshop.
This dialog will be given, in Photoshop, if 'Ask' is set for 'Maximize PSD File Compatibility' in the 'File Compatibility' section of the 'File Handling' preferences. This preference could also be set to 'Always'.
Why can't I import media files I know are supported by MediaPro?
The most common cause of media not importing in iView MediaPro is an incorrect setting made in the Import Options. You can check these by going to 'File' -> 'Import Options ...' The 'File Filters' tab filters media as it is imported. By default all of these options are not selected, one of the criteria here could be the reason media is not importing, so try with every option deselected. The second tab could also block media from importing. Check in the 'Media Types' tab that the general type of file you are trying to import is selected. You can check which type a particular format comes under from 'Media Importers ...' - on the 'iView MediaPro' menu on a Mac or 'about Media Importers' on the Help menu. If in doubt select them all.
