Can iView read Canon's raw CRW files?

Version 1.3.x and higher of iView MediaPro has support for Canon CRW files. Media view and slideshows display a high quality preview of the CRW image. Updating MediaPro to support new digital camera models is an ongoing process. If MediaPro is not cataloging your CRW images try updating to the latest release of MediaPro. In general we can support CRW images in the MediaPro release immediately after a camera is released.

How can I integrate iView into my Canon workflow?

A good combination is iView MediaPro and Canon's Raw Image Converter. MediaPro will let you preview the raw files and decide which one's are worth converting. In MediaPro, you can select the images you want and drag them as a group to the Canon Raw Image Converter icon where they will ready for batch processing. You can also make the Canon Raw Image Converter a Helper application in the Preferences dialog box.

Canon CRW files and EXIF data

When Canon cameras record in the CRW format, the EXIF metadata gets written to a separate file called .THM, rather than being written in the resource fork of the image file. iView knows how to get the EXIF metadata, provided the .THM file is in the same folder as the image. However, if you change the image filename, there can be problems. Here are a couple scripts that may help:

CRW/THM maintenance (12 k)
The first helps you store the original filenames of CRW files within the catalog. The second will let you rename associated .THM files to match the name of CRW files.
