What does the error "No Importer found for the file media [-2008]" mean?
This message means either the Quicktime or 3rd Party media importer is not available in the MediaPro - Plug-ins - Importers folder or the System folder. This is also the message that will appear if an unsupported file format is cataloged using the Custom Importer list. If the file is of a supported format try upgrading to the latest version of QuickTime or make sure the correct importer is installed.
Can I share my catalogs and media assets across the network?
More than one user can open any catalog on a server and view any asset included in the catalog. However, iView does NOT currently support multiple "write" access. Any changes to a catalog that is viewed by more than one users will need to be saved in a new catalog.
What does error "Volume Not Mounted" mean?
It is important to understand that iView MediaPro catalogs do not store a copy of the entire media file. If it did, a catalog of 1,000 JPEGs at 1 MB each would be 1 GB(!). An iView MediaPro catalog keeps references (aliases) to original files as well as thumbnails and searchable fields.
For example, you may catalog your CD collection and save the catalog on your Mac. When you remove the CD-ROM from your Mac, images are not mounted. To view those images in full, you'll need to insert the CD-ROM.
Are there any known extensions that interfere or conflict with iView MediaPro?
There are a number of extensions out there that don't seem to like Carbon based applications, such as iView MediaPro. The symptoms are usually misbehaving menus, occasional freezes, etc. These can include earlier versions of:
• Logitech Optical wheel mouse drivers
• OSAX script menu
• Default Folder
Please note that more and more applications will soon appear Carbonized. It is important to notify developers of such useful extensions to update whenever possible.
Are my iView Multimedia, Photo Relay catalogs compatible with MediaPro?
iView MediaPro is backwards compatible to all versions of iView Multimedia and PhotoRelay. However, due to a variety of new features, catalogs saved with iView MediaPro may not be fully readable by earlier versions.
Note that if you double click on a iView Multimedia (or PhotoRelay) catalog the Finder will always launch the creator application. To open these catalog with iView MediaPro, just drag those catalogs on the MediaPro icon, or use the "File | Open" command.
How much memory does iView MediaPro really need?
Increasing iView MediaPro's memory partition is not generally recommended. The default (8 MB of RAM) should be adequate, unless you want to open more than 10 catalogs at once. iView MediaPro uses system memory to handle most of its functions. Giving more to MediaPro means you have less in your system.
An exception to this is Nikon NEF format images, Nefs use a lot of memory and if they are not importing properly increasing the MediaPro memory allocation can help.
