ORLANDO, Fl, Feb. 27, 2006 – Digital asset management leader iView Multimedia Ltd. today announced the results of its survey, “Understanding Professional Photography Workflow.” Over 700 respondents described their workflows. The emerging picture shows an overwhelming desire to speed the workflow process.
Commercial photographers comprised the majority of survey respondents. They defined “workflow” as a broad, complex and inclusive process from shooting images to archiving them. While all agreed that the greatest benefit of having an effective workflow was that it “saves time,” the majority (73 percent) reported that the effectiveness of their workflow “could be better.” And 71 percent felt that their workflow processes were lacking or included significant problem areas.
The group was divided nearly in half regarding whether or not they had implemented a consistent process or felt they had the proper tools to do the job. Forty percent of respondents reported that they use a “consistent process” while 53 percent say they are “working on it.” Regarding whether they owned proper tools to enable an effective workflow, 52 percent responded that they did not, while 47 percent replied that they did.
Most described raw file conversion and color correction/touch up as the most time-consuming step in their workflow process. This step was also characterized as causing the “most frustrating delays.” The next greatest issue was adding metadata to images.
The last survey question asked photographers, “What is the one ‘silver bullet’ that would eliminate the main frustration associated with your workflow? The one consistent response was “speed,” which was defined in many ways -- from a faster computer, compatibility between related applications or more automated features within applications. Answers reflected the individuality of respondents, from, “I don’t believe in silver bullets,” to “more training and review of training I’ve already had.” All responses are being reviewed by iView’s development team and are seen as important contributions to future of iView MediaPro product development.
Survey details and the survey prize winner (iView MediaPro and “The DAM Book” by Peter Krogh) are posted on iView's Web site. For more information please stop by booth #4886 in Orlando, or visit http://www.iview-multimedia.com.
