iView creates a digital workflow for the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition
The Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition (SWPY) is one of the world’s leading international photographic contests. This winning images form a highly emotive showcase of the splendor, drama and variety of life on earth – an unforgettable experience for participants, visitors and wildlife lovers alike. Microsoft is the proud digital technology sponsor of the competition and, over the past three years, has worked closely with the Natural History Museum to enable the competition to embrace a recent and inevitable shift to digital photography techniques and formats.
iView MediaPro provided the backbone for the competition's new digital workflow. All images were imported into a MediaPro catalog where metadata was added, creating a central database of all competition entries. The Light Table and Slideshow features then came to the fore, providing judges with a clear and uncluttered method for reviewing & rating files. Through this process the 18,000+ entries were whittled down to the final selection. MediaPro was then used to batch resize these images for the SWPY Website and image data was exported to an XML file, to be easily imported into the Museum's existing Web framework. MediaPro also formed a cornerstone in the organisation's digital archive software solution allowing staff to quickly and easily backup submissions to a variety of storage devices.
• Read the full story here.
• See the winning images on the SWPY Website.
